Widows and Orphans Relief Development
Everjoice Makuve has been a member of New Hope Christian Centre since 2001 when she first moved to Norwich from Zimbabwe. She has been a part of our Ministry team and our Leadership team.
It was while she was taking part in our leadership development programme run by John and Doreen Betts that Everjoice first wrote her vision for WORD (Widows and Orphans Relief Development).
It has been a privilage and a pleasure to support and work with Everjoice as she has set up WORD.
WORD is a programme set up to relieve poverty, sickness and the distress of widows, widowers and orphans especially in Africa by raising awareness, disseminating information and advancing education among the widows, widowers and orphans and their communities.
Our mission is to support and promote an integral approach to issues of poverty, ill health, injustice and imbalances towards widows, widowers, orphans and the general communities.
Our vision is a world in which widows, widowers and orphans are empowered to promote their interest and live free of perennial poverty, ill health, lack of decision -making power and other forms of disempowerment and exploitation.
WORD is guided by the principles of Participation, Sustainability, Transparency, Inclusion and Justice.
We value a sense of belonging, participation, freedom of expression, diversity, team work, humility, leadership, transparency. We recognise gifting and see people rather than the programmes for people to fit into.
WORD is represented in many countries throughout England, The African and Indian Continents and has a variety of projects designed to empower and enrich the lives of all the people WORD encounters. We work together with the widows, widowers and orphans to develop their skills, provide education and HIV/AIDS awareness, and in some cases emergency assistance with clothing and food.
